Roles by discipline
First roles that are built to teach you something
Your first role shapes more than your second or third will, and not because of the technology. It comes down to who is sitting near you the first time you are properly stuck, and whether that person has the time. Everything else about a junior job is downstream of whether somebody senior has protected hours in their calendar with your name on them. So that is what we ask for, by name, and we do not post the role without it.
What we ask before we post one
The questions the ad never answers.
- Who will you sit with when you start, and is that time protected in their calendar?
- What did recent hires in this role work on after they joined, and where are they now?
- When is the first written review, and what is it against?
- Is there a defined route out of junior, and what does it require?
- Is this permanent, or a trial with a nicer name on it?
- What will you be allowed to break?
What we will not post
We do not post junior roles without a named mentor and a date for the first review.
